topic EOS 7D LCD black in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

After I repaired an external flash sensor problem, I now have a problem. There is nothing to see on the LCD screen, neither live view nor the menus.

The internal flash now works. The camera can take pictures and transfer them to the computer. All buttons seem to work. When I press the Live Start or Movie Record button, the mirror flips up as it should.

I think it may be some problem with the connection to the rear panel but I can't see any damage to either the connector or the flat cable.

It is of course an old camera that has long been discontinued, so it probably isn't worth sending it in to Canon for repair.

Is there anything else I can try myself - any ideas?

Greetings,

I don't mean for this to sound like a broken record. I tell people this frequently. The repair temptation is not worth it 99% of the time. If it's something you care about, let Canon perform the repairs.

7D, 16 yrs old and 18MP. KEH has EX+ for $194. Shipping and repair will likely exceed replacement value. (As you surmised) If the glass you own is old, and you are generally happy with 18MP and 19AF points you could replace it.

This would not be my first recommendation. I would move to a mirrorless body and adapt my older lenses knowing some of them might not perform to the same specs as RF. Even the older ones will perform better that they may have on a DSLR, but you might not get the same frame rates. Unless you need this, its not a big deal. Admittedly, I am a proponent of mirrorless. At this point, they vastly out performs DSLRs. You non-functioning device makes you a perfect candidate.
