Hi Waddizzle,
thank you for your response. I understand that this is an option, however it's not optimal since it's good to have the larger rear display for photo reviews and accessing the menu easily. When you access the menu through the EV its very fiddly, and it's also more difficult to evaluation focus & crop when reviewing photos. What i'm requesting is an additional feature for when the rear screen is flipped to open and off.

Just some good old fashioned feedback. I just got my R5 and im missing a more snappy activation of the R5 EV. So I have a suggestion for your development team, more on that below.

I work conference and sometimes you have to react very fast if something interesting happens that you want to catch. So I find that when i put the viewfinder up to my eye it takes too long for the EV to activate. Im waiting for the activation for maybe 0,2 seconds, which doesnt sound like a lot, but with the old DSLRs you are able to see through the viewfinder before it reaches the eye, so you would basically be framing/thinking about the framing already before the viewfinder reaches your eye. In total this is maybe half a second lost, which is not optimal.
(NOTE: I have the LCD screen always off, except for when i push the menu button, then i use it for settings in the menu)

So I have a suggestion, why not let a half press on the shutter wake up the EV? Then you can activate the EV while raising the camera. Seems like a no brainer to me, but maybe there are some complications i havent considered. Anyway just some feedback, have a nice day.

I'm not sure why your R5's EVF isn't activating with a half press, but mine does almost instantly. I am a nature photographer and sometimes the action is slow so my camera will go to sleep (I'm assuming that is what you're referring to). When I anticipate action, I half press and by the time my camera is to my eye, the EVF is active. I have four R's, and they all work that way.

Have you removed focus from the shutter button and assigned it to another button?

Greetings Gents,

I to have been pleased with the "instant on" performance of the EVF. @cleverd can you review and confirm the settings you have set for Screen Viewfinder Display:

Canon : Product Manual : EOS R5 : Screen/Viewfinder Display

My camera's EVF and LCD is always ready to go when activated by the time I get my camera up to my eye.

Hi FD, yes I have indeed removed focus from the shutter button, it is assigned to 2 different back buttons. One for spot AF and one for tracking. Neither of the 3 buttons wake the EV. When i press either of the back focus burrons, I can hear the lens focusing, but it does not wake the EV still. So the halft press on the shutter is set to "metering start".
