Corrupted images on my EOS 250D

I've taken pictures with my camera and a large portion of the photos couldn't be viewed through the camera, I tried tranfering the images to a computer but those same images were broken and just had a large area of them blocked.

When viewing the corrupt photos through the camera it shows for a moment a low-res version of the photos and then it goes to a scaled down photo and writes "cannot playback image".

When viewed through the computer it for a moment showed the correct preview of the photos but than it changed them to the blocked versions of them, I tried going back and forth changing directories and stuff and figured that in the original SD it showed the preview properly but when opening them, it resulted in the blocked version.

If anyone can help me figure this out I'd really appriciate it.

The SD folder saved on desktop:C:\Users\User\Desktop\DCIM

The original SD folder: D:\DCIM\101CANON

Thanks for joining the conversation, Linoy!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know which Canon camera model you have, exactly which operating system is running on your computer (i.e. Windows or macOS, and which version thereof), and which applications you've tried. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks, though we need a little bit more information about your camera as we've made quite a number of models in the EOS camera line. The model number should be on the front or top of the camera. Would you mind taking a look?

Greetings,

Are You using a full size SD card or a MicroSD with adapter?. MicroSD cards should not be used, ever.

If you are using full size...

Reset the camera's main and custom (if applicable) settings to defaults. Buy a new SD card. Format the new card in camera and retest. Let us know the results.

SD cards are not intended for log term storage. File recovery is for when the directory has issues or you have deleted images, it can't correct corruption in the file.

I doubt that you can do much for these images, but what you should do in the future is periodically transfer the images to your computer, *immediately make a backup*, and reformat the card in the camera.

If you care about your images you may want *more* backups and store one in a different place to prevent against theft and fire.

I've tried restarting both settings but nothing has changed, I also tried to see what would happen when the corrupted photos were transfered to a new SD card but the photos were still broken.

What size SD Card are you using. For some reason that lineup of cameras doesn’t play nicely with SD Cards larger than 32GB. Is this a Full Sized or Micro SD Card in an adapter. Only use full sized cards.
