EOS R5 "Image Playback" button intermittently fails to playback images

The "Image Playback" button (17) intermittently fails to playback images on my EOS R5 camera. I have to turn off the camera and then turn it back on again to get it to playback an image. This is very annoying. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Greetings,

If the behavior is 100 percent reproduceable, try the following.

Remove all accessories from the body.

Make a back up of your current settings to SD Card. (Optional)

Perform a full settings reset, Main and Custom.

Retest. If the behavior persists, contact support and set up an inspection / repair.

If its resolved, something you set, changed or attached to the camera was likely the cause.

Thank-you for the reply. I bought this camera in December 2024 and it was having this issue right at the beginning. The only accessory I have is a Canon lens adapter so I can use my previous EOS (non-RF) lenses, so I'll remove it and see if that changes anything. I'll also try the "full settings reset" you mentioned. Thanks!

What brand, storage capacity, and speed memory cards are you using?

Does the issue affect both card slots?

A quick and dirty way of taking your custom settings off the table without losing them is to switch the camera to intelligent Auto mode and then retesting the camera.

I'm pretty much using the B&H recommended type cards. All my still shots (which is where I'm experiencing the problem) go to a 512GB PNY EliteX-Pro60 SD card (read 280MB/s, write 150MB/s). All my video shots get stored on the CFexpress card; 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO (read 1700 MB/s, write 1400 MB/s). I have not noticed the problem with the videos, but then again I rarely shoot any videos, so that might be why. Thanks!

I was not aware B&H recommended anything, not unless you engage in a chat with one of their excellent consultants. My personal experience with PNY has not been good. Make certain that you are using a UHS-!! V90 SD card. Anything less will give you problems. I use SanDisk and Lexar cards. Always use full size cards and format them in the camera prior to first use.

On the B&H website, if you look under the product (Canon EOS R5) you will see a section called "Recommended Accessories," and that was what I was referring to. That was why I got the SanDisk CFexpress card. At the time they did not have the SanDisk version of the SDC card, so I got the PNY equivalent. You make a good point about the PNY card, although I've never had an issue with the ones I've used in the past (on my Canon EOS 5D Mark III it worked great). Thanks.
