T3i Shutter Life - Astrophotography

Hello all, I am new in the Canon Community. I have a T3i. I am starting to get into astrophotography. As some of you may know, some projects require many exposures. I was watching a video on shooting the Pleiades. The person's recommendation is 2000 exposures, then stacking the photos in a program to create the best image. I have stacked photos before but never 2000. Once my camera reaches its shutter life of 100,000 (that's only average) and eventually fails, is that it? is the camera a paperweight? I know it's an older camera, but it still works great. I am currently looking for a used T7i body. Thanks.

I wouldn’t invest in any DSLRs anymore. Canon and other camera manufacturers have discontinued DSLR production. They’ve also discontinued production of lenses too. Then who knows how long Canon will support these older cameras and lenses for. The EOS R series is the future.

Yes the EOS R series is a Mirrorless lineup. Not a DSLR lineup of cameras. It has also replaced the EOS M Series lineup of cameras too.

Shutters can be replaced if the camera is still in its service life. In general they last much longer than the "average".

Your camera is a tool, use it.
