How low is the light? Can you post an example of a bad photo?

Have you tried the built in flash?

Hi! I have a Canon SL1. I am wanting to upgrade to have better quality pictures especially in low light. I want to be able to continue to use the lenses I currently have. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

First of all if upgrading what is your budget we need a $$ amount. Saying things like "won't break the bank" or as "high as the sky" is not a $$ amount.

missyhos,

Upgraing your camera won't necessarily get you better "quality" pictures.

Usually, you upgrade so that you can get a camera that has more features than the one you currently have. For example, I upgraded from a Canon T6 because I wanted a camera that had more focus points and had a faster continuous burst shooting speed.

As the others have suggested, we need an idea of how much you want to spend. It would be a waste of time to recommend a $5,000 camera, if you only had $500 to spend.

The SL1 that you currently have uses an EF mount system, so your lenses that you have are probably all EF or EF-S lenses. If you move to one of Canon's mirrorless R series cameras and want to keep using your EF or EF-S lenses, you'll need to buy an EF-EOS R adapter. That runs about $125.00, so you should take that into account.

If you want to stay in the DSLR line, there are the Canon T7, the SL3 and the 90D models as possible options.

For low light photography, you're going to need a wide aperture, or a slower shutter speed, or a combination of both. Depending on what you are trying to photograph, a simple EF 50mm f/1.8 lens might be an option. They run about $129.00.

The EOS 90D been discontinued a long with the EOS Rebel T7. I wouldn't be surprised if more DSLRs would be discontinued. The EOS Rebel SL3 appears to still be selling. Pretty much everyplace has those 2 cameras listed as discontinued.
