EOS R5 Mark II menu complaint: It's 2025 cannon, not 1990, time to update your menus

I get it, same menu makes it easier for old timers to not have to get used to a new menu when they upgrade their canon cameras over the years. But come on Canon. How about making the menus a bit more intuitive. Or allowing a more graphical option. Everytime I have to dig through the entire camera menu to find a setting I want to change. You guys need to do better. You can definitely win on a lot more new customers by making your setting menus a bit easier to find where a setting is. This camera I have can take God knows how many 8k resolution photos a second, I'm sure it has the computational capabilities to have much nicer and organized menus.

one of their newest ones, R5 Mark II. The way settings are organized in 8 different categories and up to 10 pages per categeory is just not the best way to organize it in my opinion. It's always a time consuming task to find which page that one setting was on that I rarely use but I know the camera has a setting for it. I think that's an area they can improve if they focused on it. I've been using canon for about 20 years now. It's been the same unimproved user interface since 2005

Canon often upgrades the menus from model to model. I personally think they are very well organized compared to the Nikon and Pentax menus I occasionally use. What are you having problems finding?

This is what custom menus are for. If you dislike the Canon menu system, you should check out the other brands.

Canon has the most intuitive menus in the industry. You can actually find stuff.

The color coding helps, and the pages are pretty organized by feature.

I've never tried other major brands. And certainly custom menus help and I do put them to use. I just think it could be better. More graphical. The info you display over your screen could be clickable. For example I see my microphone channel information but if I click it with my finger I can't bring up the menu to make adjustment, I have to click on the menu button and try to remember what page it was on. Most of the time I end up scrolling through lots of pages to find what I'm looking for.

The menus are functional, they do what they are supposed to do, however I believe it is not the most user friendly way to do things. I believe the current setup has a high learning curve and it takes too much scrolling around to find what you were looking for. It can definitely be improved.

You and I will have to agree to disagree on this one, I guess. When I first switched to Canon after years of using Pentax I thought the Canon menu layout was how the Pentax menu should have always been.

Although, it did take me most of the first day to learn where everything was in the Canon menu without having to refer to the manual, so if that's what you mean by high learning curve, I'll agree. Some cameras take far less than a day to memorize even if they are disorganized. Maybe chaos is the solution to memorizing? lol

I have to say the menu system in post 2011 so 2012 and later cameras is better than pre-2011 cameras. The color coded menu system makes it easier to identify the correct menu settings. Such as yellow is for memory cards and red is speedlites/ flashes, Green is My Menu, Purple is AF system. This makes it easy for people to understand instead of all of the menus being the same color.
