Don't know much about Canon brand filters but they seem to be mediocre. My personal preference is B&W but be prepared to a little extra. Whatever you do don't skimp on quality unless you have a real crappy lens. Another option for protection is a lens hood.

As a new owner of a 60D, I want to get a UV filter to protect the lens, and Canon makes 3 of them. There are 3 different ones, and no data given for selection. Should I get the priciest one, or go for one of the cheaper versions?

Can someone compare them for me?

Thanks!

I agree - Canon filters are middle of the road quality wise. I like B+W because they use brass rings (painted black). Hoya Pro are also good (aluminum rings). You can find descriptions at B&H video (premier photo equipment seller) or Amazon. A lens hood also provides a lot of protection. There are always lively discussions about using a filter for protection or not. Seems to run about half and half for and against. I use B+W MRC filters on all my lenses. MRC is B+W's multi-coated filters.

Jim
