“ I want to shoot each frame as a half second of video, so I can scrub to points that aren't jarring transitions and use those. Is there a way to hit a single button and have it shoot an exact amount of video and stop? “

The correct answer to your question is still no. The R5 cannot do it. You have to do it in post.

Doing a bit of stop motion, because smoke is involved, I want to shoot each frame as a half second of video, so I can scrub to points that aren't jarring transitions and use those. Is there a way to hit a single button and have it shoot an exact amount of video and stop? If not in camera, does anyone know of a not too expensive accessory that can?

I suggest Adobe’s Photoshop and their other advanced video editing tools.

I'm not looking to cut a long video down to precise lengths, I'm wondering if there is an off the shelf way to shoot a short, set length of video with a single button press. I'll be shooting very high res, so file size is an issue. Beyond that, stop motion is unforgiving of mistakes, and takes a lot of focus, so removing every point of failure is important. If there's no way to do it, I'll tinker up something, but I'm asking if anyone knows how to do this specific thing.

Yes, I understand that. I get it. What you want doesn’t exist. Create one.

There’s no quick and easy off ramp to success. You’re going to have to take a deep dive into the weeds if you want to reach your goals.

On the R5, I don't know. Does the multi-exposure mode perhaps help? (Manual page 224).

On the C80, you can do something like this in frame mode. You can set it to grab 9 frames at a time, which essentially gives you a mini video snippet every time you press the shutter. 9 frames is only 0.37 seconds at 24 FPS, but it's something.

That's a good work around, I can batch import frames and group by timing. I'm gonna keep digging into remotes to see if I can find any accessories (thinking remotes and screens) with that feature, but just doing it as bursts will work if not.. and accurate frame rate won't matter since I'm just looking for options.
