EOS R5 AV setting remains visible when camera is off

I have just purchased a canon EOS R5 and note that, unlike my EOS 80D, the AV setting remains visible in the window when I switch the camera off. Can you tell me if this is correct and if it is does it deplete the battery life?

This is the default behavior and expected. My top LCD turns black with a battery inserted and the camera is shut off. Don't worry, it doesn't affect battery life. If you're not going to be using your camera In the next 7 days or more I'd remove the battery. Storing your camera with a battery installed for an extended period of time is not a good practice. Congrats on your R5. It's quite an upgrade from your 80D which is also a great device.

This is how the R5 works -- it keeps the top LCD "running" all the time. But don't worry about it -- monochrome LCDs like that use essentially no power. In fact, they theoretically use no power -- they are designed as an open circuit. There's just going to be a very tiny amount of leakage. The internal leakage in your battery is probably way higher.

The colour LCD in your camera's main display is a completely different beast; that's a huge power hog, maybe the biggest in the camera.
