I think I’ve kind of found the issue. It’s to do with the info button and its settings, in which there is an option to turn the screen off that I must have pressed and forgot about. I only found it by accident.

So I’ve taken that option out of the list of available options and so far everything had been behaving and doing what I expect!

Normally I would blame myself in this circumstance, but I have to say the user manual is pretty poor and really low on actual knowledge and/or examples.

Anyway, fixed for now I think, will post again if there’s anything else causing the issue.
Cheers,
Tull.

R1 screen gives up and stops playing fair!

I received an R1 a few days back and I have to say I’ve been enjoying it greatly. This one however had a peculiar problem which I’ve been unable to solve.

The camera and screen will be working fine while I’m shooting, then all of a sudden the screen will go blank. It won’t light up at all while I’m shooting. However, I can still manually review the picture I’ve jut taken fine. In fact if I turn on Review that also works fine. But still wont work when I’m ready for another shot. The first thing I tried was the orientation of the screen, but no position works.

I’ve tried the View settings, Auto 1, 2, Screen on only, nothing has worked except Factory resetting the camera. If I reset it the screen works fine for a while. Of course if I load the camera settings I’ve saved to file I lose the screen again and It’s an arse going through the whole menu system making all my changes. I have tried this and the screen will work for a while, then the same problem again.

I’ve charged the battery, I’ve reseated the 2 memory cards, not that I can see this having any effect. And didn’t!

Also I need to mention the menu will display on the screen absolutely fine, as soon as I’m out of the menu it’s back to not working when shooting.

Now, I don’t use the screen while shooting often, but I am in a wheelchair so it can be useful. It’s also handy now and then while settling up bracketing, which you can’t do on the screen if you’ve half pressed the fire button.

I’m more than happy to accept it being my fault If I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t think that I’ve done anything to cause this, repeatedly! However there a load of firmware bugs that need ironing out so it might be part of these.

Does anyone have any ideas?
I don’t want to send it back, I’ve not had it long enough for that! I’m also in hospital at the moment and I’m not sure where I’ll be when it gets returned, it’s all a bit complicated.

I can go back to the R3 for a while So I”m not without options, it just seems a bit of a shame.

Over to you folks.
Thanks.
Munty.
