Can you post a sample picture in the forum taken with that lens. Also pictures of the lens itself too. It's odd that it just says 24-105mm but not the whole lens name. All of my Canon lenses old and new show their entire and exact names. Even my old film era EF lenses from the beginning of the EOS line. Their full and exact names are reported in the metadata such as EF 35-70mm F/3.5-4.5, EF 50mm F/1.8 or 70-210mm F/4. If the camera doesn't know the full name of the lens mounted it cannot apply the correct lens correction profiles.

Hello,

I believe my lens is reporting "24-105mm" to my 5D mk III instead of the expected "Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM"

Thus, the in-camera Lens aberration correction is not available.

Also, DPP 4.19.30.0 reports Lens data: Not Available.

Please note that my 50mm lens works correctly with these features and I successfully used the EOS lens registration utility, etc. I've downloaded the lens profiles in DPP.. I've done all that.

Yes, this is on a full size RAW file.

Help? Anyone seen this before?

I downloaded the correction data from EOS Utility to my 6D.

Sometimes my x1.4 III shows the older version x1.4 and I suppose it has to do with bad connection between the camera and the tele converter. It shows the older tele converter both in camera and in Exif.

I don't remember, but my EF80-200/2.8L is reported with its whole name and not just 80-200mm, and I haven't registered that lens.

About DPP I guess that it doesn't matter. I can download and use the profile for 75-300 II,III even if I haven't downloaded it for my 6D.

Share an unmodifed JPEG from your camera+lens and we can take a look what the Exif says. The LensType nr for your lens should be 237.

Some EF lenses have lens correction profiles already loaded on them. This is the case with newer EF lenses released in and after 2012. Some very old EF lenses also have them already loaded on there. This is the case with older L series lenses. My old EF 85mm F/1.8 USM lens. Purchased new back from the 90s and has lens correction data present. Without me having to load it on the camera or through DPP. There is only one EF L series lens that doesn’t have lens correction data available. That lens is the EF 100-300mm F/5.6L lens. It’s also the first EF L lens for the new EOS system in 1987. It’s also 1 of 3 the L lenses not to use a USM AF motor. It uses the original EOS AF motor called Arc Form Drive. The AF is very slow and these lenses have a 3-4 fps limit when the camera is set to AI Servo/ Servo AF mode.

Yes that is true all of my Canon EF lenses report their full names. My old EF 70-210mm F/4 lens purchased new back in 1987. Has lens correction data present without having to load it on my camera. Now certain lens correction is not available. That particular lens I believe only offers distortion correction. Not even Canon DPP offers more lens correction options for it. These early EOS lenses only offer certain lens corrections. Some don’t have any at all.

When you open the raw image in DPP, press CTRL / CMD I to show the info panel, this will show lots of information about the camera settings and also the lens. Does it list there as the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM?

I found an old image in my archives with the EOS 5D Mark III and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. If I open in DPP then the information panel shows the full lens info. If your lens is not reporting this then it might be a lens issue.

This is what I see

It's odd that it just says 24-105mm but not the whole lens name. All of my Canon lenses old and new show their entire and exact names. Even my old film era EF lenses from the beginning of the EOS line. Their full and exact names are reported in the metadata such as EF 35-70mm F/3.5-4.5, EF 50mm F/1.8 or 70-210mm F/4. If the camera doesn't know the full name of the lens mounted it cannot apply the correct lens correction profiles.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for.. The lens shows some pretty notable barrel distortion.

Do other lenses report the correct name to the camera so lens correction works. What happens if you try the 24-105mm on a different camera such as the 7D Mark II, 90D or 5D Mark IV. Will it apply the proper lens corrections and the correct name reported to the camera.

I will try on another camera hopefully Monday - but this is my only body at the moment.

I have a new(ish) nifty-50 that shows correct information in camera and in EXIF data. It works with the in-camera aberration correction and also with DPP digital lens optimizer.

I looked at the metadata and it reports "Canon 24-105mm". I had one 3rd Party Sigma lens that I used on the EOS 90D and the camera reported "17-50mm". In the lens correction menu options but the metadata reported the full name of the lens Sigma 17-50mm F/2.8 DC OS HSM. That lens didn't play nicely with the EOS 90D it has AF issues with newer bodies. But it worked fine with my old EOS 40D. How does the lens work on a different camera the supports in camera lens correction. Not all cameras support in camera lens correction such as my old EOS 40D. But I could easily use lens corrections in post even if the camera doesn't support it in camera.

It's a 5D Mk III and I believe this was the kit lens that was sold with it...

In the EXIF data, both online readers I used reported this:
