Canon eos M3 - remote shooting - what are the possibilities?

Hi all,
I have a Canon M3 and a star adventure GTI.

The star adventure GTI can control the cameras to take a shot using the snap cable:

Do you know if it is possible to control the camera shutter via cable in some way or only with the IR remote RC6

I did try this briefly before i sold my M3 but that was some time ago.I seem to remember it worked easily

Remote shooting is not possible using the USB port.
