topic Canon T7i Flash not firing? in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I have Canon EOS Rebel T7i and it's been working flawlessly. I took graduation pictures (with the built in flash) in May 2024 then stored the camera away. However, I brought it back out in the last week of October and the built in flash all the sudden stopped working. The camera still works and takes great photos but the flash is the only thing that stopped working.

Here's a video to see how the flash is:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y5F01-GeapSSSOpM2bubCek_P7h0Rwl4/view?usp=drive_link

I was wondering if it's a battery issue or the flash does not even work at all.

Thank you!

Try this, using a fully charged battery turn on the camera check the display to be sure the battery indicates a full charge, check the mode dial to be sure you haven't shut the flash to off, then pop the flash up and let it sit for a couple of hours then try again and see if the flash works.

There is a charging circuit internal to the camera that charges up a capacitor to fire the flash and it might not be firing up right away, if and when it does you should be good to go.

I have seen cameras corrupt and need a reset. Long shot but if all else fails reset.

Tried what you said. However, it did not work. I was going to sell the camera either way since I want to upgrade so I’ll say the built in flash is somewhat broken since it still sparks but obviously not the full flash.

Do you mean a “clear settings” reset? or how would I reset?

If the flash doesn't work, who would buy? Just asking. I have had a T7 for six years and no problems. Sometimes operator error comes into play.

"If the flash doesn't work, who would buy?"

Not in the market for one but I would buy it. In fact I did have five Rebels and I never used the flash one time. It is next to worthless. But I digress, it is up to what you are OK with but is certainly does not meet my standards.

Bottom line is the flash tubes do burnout and if that's the case no resetting or battery efforts will help.

Given that not every shot necessitates flash and given that the hot shoe is there, the camera is still very usable.
