I dunno. I haven’t used in-camera HDR for at least a decade. I always shoot RAW and AEB with the shutter delay timer. Drive mode must be Continuous Drive The camera captures the entire AEB sequence automatically.

Went to Letchworth State Park in Oct. for the glorious fall colors in NYS as the spur of the moment so i packed lightly, taking a tripod the R6ii, 24-105rf, 2 ef lenses. I got there kinda late and half of the canyon was in shadow so i knew i would have to shoot HDR to get the full range of exposure. I thought the R6 would shoot the number of shots i set up to 7, for HDR composting. WRONG!! it only does 3 shots unless you wanna shoot 7 exposures manually which would be a real pain. The HDR mode on the camera is probably inferior to using 5 or 7 RAW shots in high speed with a tripod. I was sorely disappointed but also a little embarrassed that i didn't know this ahead of time thinking it was just like my 5d-4.

The camera has a drive mode with a timer that the number of consecutive shots can be set. I thought this was for HDR but it either shoots the same exposure or the the limited AEB which is 3 shots. So if you use that setting you get 3 with the AEB, and then AEB starts again if over 3 shots. Useless for HDR. What happened to setting the shots to 5 or 7 exposures? 3 shots is ok but i always shoot 5-7 to get the full range depending on the scene. Gonna look at the images saved by the camera but i think 5 shots is needed for the best most natural HDR shots. If i have the opportunity to go back next week i will certainly take the 5d for HDR, and the R6 for everything else.

Anyone else screw up like me?

Yes same for me. i have never used it until i didnt have a choice. The method you described is what i expected to do on the r6 like the 5dm4. That will only get you 3 shots. Interesting the setting for Timer Continuous is manually adjustable from 2 to xxx. But it only duplicates the aeb pattern you have input automatically using the high speed shutter. So 2 gets you 2 sets of the same HDR aeb exposures (6 total shots). I don't know what the purpose of that is.... I have only used 5 to 7 shot HDR images, never 3.
