EOS R5 Shutter with Wrinkle

I have a EOS R5, and while using it, we dropped the camera which seems to have caused a wrinkle within the shutter. It is very small, and doesn’t seem to have much effect on the camera other than a small degradation of shutter speed. Is this something I should be looking to get repaired? Or will it make no effect other than the shutter speed?

Hi and welcome!
If the shutter is operating slower than it should, then there is friction, and the risk is that this small wrinkle may be accentuated by repeated use of the shutter and become a major issue. If the shutter erodes, it may also deposit bits onto the sensor, which then might require repeated cleaning, or get into other components.
I would suggest calling 1-800-OK-Canon to talk to a tech support person.

Agree. R5, get it repaired. Then use some kind of safety retention. Wrist strap, black rapids body strap... even the neck strap that comes with the camera. Accidents happen.

Thanks! We had it on a monopod with a 400mm, hence why no possibility for safety retention. Fell because the monopod slipped, any recommendations for sturdy monopods?

There is on rather hybrid unit that I use and like, it will not be as stable as a conventional tripod, but it will be far less bulky and it also can be converted from its hybrid form to a straight monopod and a small tripod.
It is an iFootage Cobra, available in several styles and lengths. You need to get your own style of head for it - I use a simple global head from SmallRig. So far it has been a great unit.

It does not mean you should not be very careful of how it is setup or the centre of gravity with different types of lenses.
