EOS 2000D flash won't fire when open, only when closed

I've had the 2000d since May and it's been working fine until now. The flash is firing when it is closed and when it wants to fire it just flickers without opening. I've not managed to open the flash manually since the problem started. I've removed and recharged the battery, and factory reset. Is there any easy fix without sending to repair centre? I'm on holiday and really would like to use it.

Whatever's happening with the camera, it doesn't sound like an easy fix. Flash firing when it's closed = not good. It needs to go to Canon for inspection and repair.

The 2000D is not a model sold in the US so you can visit Canon Global for support options.

As a possible fix while on holiday you might want to try this.

Set the mode dial to and of the creative zone modes P, Tv, Av, M then go to the menu, and at the bottom of the first page in the red menu section is Flash control, select that and in the menu that displays set Flash firing to disable. This should stop the flash firing all the time.

Once you get back from holiday, get the camera in to service as Rick advised.

Thank you all - looks like a holiday without flash photography then! Will attempt to disable flash in the morning and arrange a service for when I get home. 🙃
