I have a T7 and there is nothing in the manual for IR photography. Others should be able to help but I'm thinking there are some modifications needed. Watching for replies.

I have an older EOS T3 Rebel and I was wondering if there was a way to determine if it's capable of photographing infrared light? I'd like to use it for astrophotograpy.

Thanks,

Dale

Most EOS cameras have an IR blocking layer in the filter that is in front of the sensor. This means that the camera has limited response to IR light. You can try an R72 filter on the lens to get some idea of the capability though it is limited to the IR blocking filter on the sensor.

There are some independent companies who will remove the filter from the sensor and replace them with other wavelength filters. In the UK where I am, there is a company called Advanced Camera Services who do this. Note that you will invalidate any warranty by having such conversion.

There are factory-made astrophotography versions of two Canons....the EOS 60Da and the EOS Ra. Web-search for Canon astrophotography cameras, and the individual ones, to learn all about them.

You can look for them at used photo dealers, like MPB.com, KEH.com, or UsedPhotoPro.com, to name three good ones.
