Hi and welcome:

As my colleague, Rick, has alluded to, we cannot help without a lot more information. Apart from providing a link to a file with its EXIF data, it would be really helpful to know precisely what configuration you are using for your focus.
This would include,: focus mode - servo or otherwise, number for focus points, tracking settings.

Thank you.

Hello everybody, I bought a Canon R5 about 9 months ago and I can not get the camera to focus during sports action shots. No matter which focal point I use my focus box jumps around. Do anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? BTW... This happens even when I use any of my lens.

Greetings ,

We are happy to help you, but to do so we will need a photo with its EXIF data, I'm on a mobile device currently so I can't see what data your photo includes. You can use a file sharing service like OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox, etc. then post the link for us.

Your picture looks pretty good to me. I think you did very well using a 24-105 f4. What is it specifically you are not happy with?

As others noted, what focus mode did you use along with shutter speed? Maybe some motion blur due to camera shake/shutter speed? It looks like the turf is marginally sharper slightly to the front of the player but there isn't enough showing to make a call.

And on edit, was this the complete image or was it cropped? If cropped, was there an object in the cropped portion that was what the camera chose as the focusing point?

Attached photo was at 1/1000 shutter speed, ISO 20,000 on a 1DX III with the high ISO definitely reducing sharpness a bit

Rodger

No matter what other info you may provide very first you need to reset the camera back to default. Keep in mind sometimes the camera is smarter than you think and is doing exactly what it is told to do.
