EOS 7D Mark II How to get intervalometer to turn off camera between shots

Hi all thanx 4 add

I have simple question
I have intervalometer from amazon... All settings easy but when i set for example 10pics... All works in time remote intervalometer but intervalometer not shuting off camera after every exposure shot... Keeping on till end in intervalometer all 10pics...
Any help?
I use Canon 7d mark 2
I set mirror lock up
But no matter if on or off... Same problem
Bulp mode
No matter i set 2sec timer or simple shot

Now only can use if i leave switch on in intervalometer and in camera i set for example interval 30sec now camera soing right... Shoting on and off every sec i set in camera
But intervalometer not shoting off after ever expo shot just keep open till all captures done in intervalometer.

Welcome to the forum.

It depends on the particular intervalometer you have, but most will require that you set the camera to Bulb and select shutter speed and number of shots on the intervalomter.

Don't set mirror lockup.

Here is a typical setup instruction for most common intervalometers.

Hello John, I'm having the same problem as stromy9999 with my 1DX Mark 2. The camera is in live view mode, bulb mode, single shot mode, aperture wide open, with mirror lock set to "off'. My Vello intervalometer is set to exposure length 30 seconds, interval 25 seconds, number of images 10. The result? I only get 3 images. HOWEVER, when I take the camera out of live view mode, I get all 10 images. Any suggestions on how to get all 10 images in live view mode? I'm taking milky way images so live view minimizes camera shake.

No it won't. The shutter has to close, re-open and close, so you get one extra shutter actuation!

I'd check with your intervalometer manual, as usually the intervals are independent of the shutter opening duration.

I have the Canon TC-80N3 intervalometer, if you set an exposure of 30s, and the interval of 25s it doesn't capture all the frames. This is because the interval and shutter timers are started at the the same point. So after 25s the shutter will still be open for another 5 seconds, but the interval tries to take another shot, which fails. Then 5 seconds later the shutter closes to end the 30s exposure, and 20s later the intervalometer releases the shutter for another 30s, with then misses the next 25s increment... etc.

So if you want a 30 second exposure to start every 55 seconds then you need the shutter duration to be 30s, and the interval to be 55s not 25s. Even setting both to 30s is unlikely to work, but 30 for shutter and 35 for interval is reliable.
