Canon's website in Europe lists the following information for Err 50 on the EOS 7D

Err 50
Description: A malfunction related to the electric control has been detected.

Resolution

Turn the power off and remove then re-install the battery

Turn the power on again

If the error message is still showing, then it is necessary to deliver or send the camera to an authorised repair centre.

It would appear that something is preventing the flash from charging correctly. I have seen the BUSY warning on the screen with other EOS DSLR cameras when the flash charges.
