topic R6 MK2 or R8 w/ RF 28mm f2.8 pancake lens? in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I want to build a portable and effective setup so I want to slap a RF 28mm f2.8 lens on a camera for everyday carry.

The RF 28mm f2.8 doesn’t have IS. The R6 has IBIS and the R8 doesn’t. However the R6 is marginally heavier and bigger than the R8 https://9apps.ooo/ .

Is the IBIS with a non-IS lens of the R6 a no-brainer over a non-IBIS R8 with a non-IS lens?

Greetings,

This is difficult to answer. If your goal is light and compact, the R8 is the winner. My preference would be the R62.

Again though, it depends on what you are willing to compromise on. The R62 has better (more advanced) AF, bigger battery, faster FPS, faster shutter, more AF points and 2 slots. This comes at the expense of size and weight. They are basically neck and neck everywhere else.

*EDIT - Spelling correction

Is IBIS useful or not depends on what needs stabilising and what you are photographing.

If with the 28mm lens you are photographing subjects with a shutter speed of 1/30s or more then stabilisation is not of great value. If the subjects are moving then IBIS doesn't stabilise the subject, only the camera.

nilonki,

As I age, weight becomes more and more of a factor.

Just as an aside, my 50mm 1.8 doesn't have IS either.
