I've just purchased the EOS Rebel T7 and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens kit and registered it on the Home - MyCanon page. I installed the Camera Connect App on my phone and when I open it the first thing it wants me to do is "Register your camera!" I can't get past this page without registering a camera that I've already registered! Who writes this stuff? The Camera Connect App seems like it would be a useful thing to have, but it looks like I'll just have to delete it.

Greetings,

For your benefit, I do recommend you that register your Camera/kit at My Canon. This gets your warranty activated and if you ever need service or repair, its helpful to have this completed.

The Canon Connect App does not require any additional registration. Here's how it works.

Navigate to the wireless menu on the T7, enable wireless. Use the menu and select the Connect to "Phone" icon. Your camera will display its name and password. Now open the Wi-Fi connections on your iOS or Android device, just like you were visiting a friend's house or coffee shop. Look for the SSID (name of your camera's WI-Fi broadcast) select it, and enter the password to connect. Now open the Canon Connect App. It should do the rest for you, allow you to select the T7 and "register" it as a connected device you wish to have associated with the app on your phone. The term "register" is essentially a profile that gets saved so when you open the app, it knows what camera its connecting to. You can have more than one camera if you like. Lets us know if you have any questions.

Here are some pics so you can see what's happening.

I go through those exact steps and it connects almost instantly... about 1 time out of 10. The other 9 times it just keeps looking. With my PowerShot sx530HS, it has the gall to say it's actually connected to the Android phone, but the app in the (NEW) Android phone doesn't respond. (I had an old S8 which worked great! The "upgraded" Android OS killed off the NFC connection PLUS rendered the wifi totally unreliable.)
