Hello,

I have a 1v and more than once have started shooting during a fast paced day without loading film first. The manual says that Fn-22 is the custom setting to "disable the shutter when film is not loaded". In camera settings only go to Fn-20. It seems you need to use a computer with Canon software and cables to customize beyond function 20. Is this true or can you still get this function within the camera itself? I have neither the software nor cable. And there doesnt seem to be compatible 1v software with current Macs on Canon's website. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The EOS 1V has both custom and personal function customization, the disable without film loaded is a personal function and as you found only custom functions are set within the body while personal functions are set with EOS link software.

The camera was still in production in 2018 as the last Canon 1 series film camera so it is likely someone still has the software but you will need a computer capable of supporting it which means probably a computer and operating system that was in use at least a decade ago and probably older. If you can find the EOS link software, you can probably find a computer hobbyist group that can help you with access to an older computer that will run the software.

I had a 1V a LONG time ago and the EOS link software was very basic. It might very well run under an OS emulator on a modern PC.

Rodger

Really appreciate the answer! It might be beyond my ability to actually get that software running. Guess I'll just have to be careful when shooting.
