What specific phone (make, model number) do you have? If it's not capable of installing apps, it may have very little storage capability. Thus, even if you could transfer images from an EOS R8, they may be too large for it to be practical.

Do you have a computer?

Hi,

I am a happy new owner of a Canon EOS R8.

My phone is the simple kind, and it doesn't allow me to install apps such as the Canon Camera Connect app. It does have Bluetooth, though.

Is there any way to connect to Bluetooth without an app (in order to transfer pictures)?

Thank you in advance.

I would think not. However, that does not preclude software developers from writing their own apps to interact with Canon cameras.

Hindy,

If your camera has Bluetooth, and your phone has Bluetooth, you could probably pair them, but if you can't install apps, you won't be able to actually do anything. Say they get paired, then what?

Steve Thomas

Greetings,

My colleagues have made valid points. Our goal is to try and offer sound advice and solutions. Ones that make the most sense. While other solutions may exist, each requires another type of compromise. I don't believe adding complications to your workflow are best.

A new(er) phone might solve a lot of problems for you.

Hi,

Thanks for all the answers.

Bluetooth File Transfer is supported on my phone. I thought that on the camera I would select which pictures I want to send, pair it with my phone, and send it.

Why is it necessary to have the Canon app as a middleman?

Thank you everyone for responding.

I have the LG Classic Flip Wine 2 8GB LTE Flip Phone and it has a memory card slot with a 128 GB inside, so there should be enough storage.

I do have a laptop computer but I like looking at photos on my phone and sharing pictures with my family.

I don't think the camera will be able to work with any arbitrary Bluetooth connection. Hence the need for a particular app/application.

I believe all you can do is see if there's some photo sharing service/feature you can use from your computer to share photos out to your device and others.

Or, you may have to restort to emailing the photos from your computer to their desired destinations.
