I have mostly transitioned to mirrorless, although I still retain two DSLRs and even a couple of M5's! Of the line-up that is currently available, I love the R5 and both versions of the R6. I think the R8 has great value, although I think it deserves its own battery grip, especially considering its smaller battery.

I would like to see a R7MkII with some upgrades to make it a true flagship APS-C camera.
- BSI / Stacked sensor or around 24 - 30MP
- Dual X processors
- Bigger buffer
- Same quality focus system as R6 series
- Better mechanical shutter (quieter!)
- Make it compatible with the BG-R10 battery grip.

If such a camera existed, I would buy one for my wildlife photography.
The RF lenses are brilliant. I was really surprised and impressed by the RF 24-240 USM in particular, the first super zoom for a long time. I just got the RF 200-800 and am really impressed - samples coming...

Hopefully this is the year of the EOS R5 Mark II. Once that is released, I'll pick that up along with my dream team: RF 50mm f/1.2L and RF 135mm f/1.8L.

What has your experience been like with our mirrorless cameras? Here's mine...

My journey with mirrorless started by breaking bad focusing habits and leaning into the new AF focusing methodology. Having moved from film to digital and now mirrorless, learning how to re-think focus tracking was nothing short of ground breaking for me.

I have recently started focusing (pun intended) on deliberate still life subjects with minimal light. I made the image below by setting a focusing target in the frame, switching the lens to manual focus and setting the MF Peaking on. Being confident that I set the focus exactly where I want it has really increased my success rate in post. Once I lock in the focus, I dim the room lights and start making images using the Camera Connect App.

My own experience has been the challenge to learn how to make the best use of the new AF system. I have shot with DSLRs since the EOS D30 and was using 5D Mark IV before EOS R came along. Realising it as the new direction for EOS I tried the EOS R and initially didn't like the camera as I tried to use it like my 5D Mark IV. Over the course of a year I used it more, and there were plenty of firmware improvements, suddenly I was shooting with the EOS R more than the 5D Mark IV. When I got my hands on EOS R5/R6 I sold the EOS R with the 5D Mark IV, and spent time learning to get the optimum from the new way AF systems. Then along came EOS R3/R7/R10 and there was another shift in AF that meant more learning and significant differences to the way I shot even compared to the EOS R5/R6. Then when EOS R6 Mark II arrived I saw there was another iteration in the AF and that also took some more time to fully understand.

What I have found is that so many long time DSLR users have picked up the R5/R6 or later cameras and simply used them like they did with a DSLR not bothering to find out what the new capabilities can do for them. In effect they bought the mirrorless for it's amazing new AF and then didn't use the amazing new AF.

I have been a little less keen on the new RF lenses for what I shoot, as they don't offer some of the capabilities I use and that exist in the EF range (mostly to do with extenders). Though I did get the RF 28-70mm F2L and it is a stunning lens.
