I would recommend against using SDXC SD cards in that camera. Those cards cause random problems such as locking up or hanging for no apparent reason. Stick with SDHC SD Cards in that camera. Even though the manual says they're compatible. They're NOT COMPATIBLE for whatever reason. They simply don't work reliably and aren't worth the headache.

Anyone used a T7 for videos? The manual says it takes a certain memory card. Just asking as I might try it.

John,

The manual says your camera will take SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.

It's actually compatible with the newer UHC -1 cards, but you won't get any real benefit from those, because the cards are faster than the camera's processing speeds.

You might want to look at this web page. Do a Google search for this exact phrase.

Canon Rebel T7 Memory Card Recommendations

If you do get a new card, make sure it's at least a Class 10.

I you want to do video, my personal recommendation would be a 128g SDXC card.

Steve Thomas

Note that SDHC is going to be limited to 32 GB. Which for video work, can be quite limiting. Especially if the desire is to capture long-running events. If only capturing shorter segments where changing cards won't be an issue, then agreed that smaller capacity cards would be best.

While a card's sustained write speed is the most important metric to look at, higher read speeds can be beneficial when transferring footage to a computer. Of course only if the computer's destination drive write speed and transport speeds (cables, ports, etc.) aren't the bottleneck.

Yes but those cameras for some reason don't work well with SDXC SD cards. They cause all sorts of problems like hanging and freezing for no apparent reason. Discontinuing the use of that particular card fixes the problem. It would be best to use a larger card. But its not worth the headache with this particular camera.

I agree with Demetrius. Stick to SDHC UHS-1 Class 10 memory cards, 32GB or smaller.

AFAIK, the camera will only record Full HD for 30 minutes, and then STOP. It will come to a full stop at a 4GB file size or 30 minutes of record time, whichever comes first.

But you have had this camera body for a while. What has been your experiences with SDXC SD cards, 64 GB or larger? Does the camera ever hang or freeze up?

Also, the T7 is not capable of Movie Servo AF. It will not refocus and track subjects while recording video on its own. You would need a camera operator, which would be a little awkward without a joystick control.

The camera is perfectly capable of capturing “talking head” videos like you see all over YouTube. The YouTube content creator “Anton Petrov” produces videos that are a perfect example of this style of video recordings. He is a “wonderful person.”

https://youtu.be/z83lEdDgHRw?si=Dsmf7XlBbGrL7Txr

Haven't attempted video, just inquiring. 30 minutes isn't a lot of time, considering outdoor wildlife videos. I never use anything over 32 GB and no micro cards. I do have two ancient video recorders. Might try them for the heck of it. Also have a knock-off of the Go Pro which came a waterproof housing. Trying underwater video with it this spring. Any excuse to go fishing! Thanks to all.
