EOS R6 won't turn off

Hello, I have an EOS R6 that is about 18 months old and it won't turn off using the power button. It will turn off if I open the battery door or card slot door but not with the power knob. With the power knob in the off position, it continues to operate normally, i.e. it will take pictures in the OFF position. I've updated the firmware, removed battery, lens and cards and let it sit. It comes on when reinstalling the batteries regardless of the ON/OFF switch position. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!

I have the same problem. The only difference is when I switch to off position. The appliance turns off and on. I just decided to open the battery cover. Does anyone have a solution?

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about this issue. It’s pretty strange.

Your camera could be in need of service. If you have had your camera for 18 months, is this behavior something that just recently began? Are you using full-size, UHS-II SD cards? Are you using a genuine Canon battery? These are questions Canon Service will probably ask.

Try this! Remove any accessories, lenses, mount adapters, and memory cards. Use a fully charged battery. Turn the camera on and set the top dial to “Green [A+]” mode, which is known as Intelligent Auto Mode. Does the camera turn off? If not, then we need to try manually resetting the camera back to its factory default settings, just like it was brand new from the factory.

Use a fully charged battery. Set the top dial to “P” and then turn on the camera. Go to the “Wrench 5” menu, and select [Reset Camera]. Perform the “Basic Reset” first. Select “Other Settings. Go through the list of settings, and reset each one. Perform the “Basic Reset” one last time.

Does the camera turn off? If not, then remove the battery. Turn the power switch to [ON]. Fully press the Shutter Button for at least 10-15 seconds. Re-install the battery, and turn the camera on. Does the camera turn off? If not, then your camera probably needs to be serviced.
