Are you sure you're looking at the Mark II version? That was introduced in 2008. Even the 5D IV at this point I'd say wouldn't be worth moving to since it will most likely be out of support in around 3 years or so.

I would instead look to Canon's R-series line of cameras. To include the EOS R8 which is the least expensive full-frame camera that would still have support for a while since it was just introduced earlier this year.

Having said that, what is your budget for the new camera? And, are you planning to keep your existing lenses? If keeping your lenses though, do check if they are EF or EF-S. If they are the latter (EF-S), you cannot use them on any full-frame DSLR. You could use them on Canon's R-series full frame cameras, however, they will only use a cropped area of the sensor and your images would have 2.56 times less resolution. e.g. a 20 MP image would become under 8 MP.

I've been using canon 7D for years thinking about going to a full frame camera looking at a 5D Mark ll. Looking for advice. Is this a good move or not?

Flytier,

The 5D Mark II only has a Digic 4 processor. Technology has come a long way since then.

For close to the same amount of money, you could look at the Canon RP. It's full frame.

Steve Thomas

As my colleagues have pointed out, the 5DMkII is a very old camera, and there is much better technology out there.
However, to give you advice it would be helpful to know more about what you need, as otherwise we might suggest solutions that we favour but will not necessarily be best for you. Can I suggest viewing this:
Advice for those buying new or upgrading their gear If, after reviewing the questions posed, you can offer the answers to them, it will help us to help you.
