EOS 40D mirror not working

Hello!

I am having a problem with my EOS 40D mirror not opening, and would like to ask for suggestions to fix it.

The problem started after my friend manually held the mirror open after a shot, after which the mirror no longer works.

The mirror still moves when manually moved and every other part seems fine. Nothing looks broken or out of place, it simply doesnt move

Below are some images of the thing. If anyone has any advice, I would be truly grateful.

For repairs, my advice is always Canon or midwestcamera dot com.

The 40D is 16 yrs old. Used in excellent condition $89.

In this case, a repair is not worth the expense. Time for a new camera (sorry)

Black Friday and Santa's deals are already here or coming.

Does the mirror move when switched to LiveView?

Hello

While it did not work and the mirror system itself is likely broken, this has given me the inspiration to simply remove the mirror (as it's useless now) and use liveview instead.

Used models of this camera aren't as available in my part of europe, but you are right about it being cheaper to replace than repair.
