topic Is there a distinction between “Advanced DSLR and Pro DSLR?” in EOS DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras

I’ve seen the 5D mark IV be referred to both as a Pro and an “Advanced” DSLR but things like the 1dx mark II be specifically referred to as a “pro dslr” as if that’s above the “Advanced class” despite the fact that the mark IV is used by lots of professionals and absolutely had the capability that any pro would likely prefer to have. So is there really a distinction between “Advanced Class” and “Professional Class” ?

Numerous DSLRs (and newer MILCs) can definitely be used in professional settings, so there's that.

As to how an actual camera is classified, it ultimately doesn't matter. What matters is if it provides the feature set one needs.

Having said that, I personally would define professional as having the following attributes:

Two card slots

At least some weather sealing.

More actively maintained in terms of firmware updates.

Just to sort of "clear the air," here is the official page for pro mirrorless: https://canon.us/ProMirrorless

and here is the page for pro DSLR: https://canon.us/ProDSLR

You'll notice the 5D Mark IV is on the pro DSLR page. We have always considered it a pro camera.

Where the confusion lies is the "consumer" side of our site - all of the pro cameras are also sold there as "Advanced" cameras. The reason for that is because everyone doesn't think to go to a different page/tab just for pro gear. We only truly separate out Cinema gear, because it's always been a different beast.

I hope that helps clarify just a bit! 😊
