Thank you. I really appreciate the fast response - you saved me from a lot more time spent tinkering. I will mark this as solved.

I'm still a little confused. The Canon USA website shows that the camera supports UVC and UAC. I believe your answer is correct, but that is confusing.

I think this would also answer a couple of other threads from people asking about using external microphones, since that audio would still have to go through the USB connection and it cannot.

I am using an R50 as a webcam via the direct USB-C connection. Can I use the built-in mic for this? The levels are being displayed on the flip screen, so I know that it is working. But no sound is being transmitted via the USB, because neither OBS nor the built-in Windows Camera app are registering any sound.

I suppose another way of looking at this is simply to ask if the USB-C connection passes through audio, or is it only video?

No. The USB-C connection uses the UVC (USB Video Class) protocol, which only allows the transmission of video over the USB cable. You need to use a microphone connected to your computer for live audio.

Hi. But, how then nVidia broadcast works with a Canon Digital Camera microphone?

The manual for the EOS R50 also shows that the camera provides UAC and UVC when set to streaming mode, so audio should indeed be sent.

I don't have the EOS R50 to hand, but I do have the EOS R6 Mark II and when set to streaming mode I definitely do get the audio over the USB-C cable using the camera built-in mics and with an external mic plugged in to the MIC socket on the camera. When I run Zoom I have to make sure that I select the canon digital camera for video and also the canon digital camera for audio input. It might be that in OBS you will need to create the connection to have both audio and video.
