Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The EOS Rebel T2i is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

I am having this same issue, however, running Ventura on an M2. (T2i - yes, I should upgrade but it's out of the question financially).

When I connect my camera and power it up, the menu screen shows a "busy" banner for about 10-15 sec then goes blank. At that point if I tap the menu button, the menu opens but is frozen and I'm unable to navigate.

On my computer, it's not recognized in any way.

All I'm looking to do is be able to transfer my images off without having to pop my memory card out all the time. Would love to be able to use it for remote operation as well but at this point, seems like a long stretch.

Is Canon supporting this product still? Based on how old this thread is and the lack of input from anyone, I'm assuming I'm beating a dead horse. But...with that said, if anyone has a fix and/or workaround, I'd love to hear from you!

Greetings,

You have your priorities backwards... Shiny new MBP M2 or new camera...

Should have went with a new Camera 🤣

Although Canon is not supporting the T2i any longer, it should still connect to a PC or MAC via cable. With a MAC running Ventura, you need to tell gatekeeper to allow it to connect. You should see a prompt when its first connected. If its not doing anything, the cable might be faulty or there is a problem with the camera we are not aware of.

Your camera should not be freezing. Can't tell from your post if this is happening only when you connect it to a computer or at other times randomly. Are you using a full size memory card with it, or a micro SD card with an adapter? Is the cable the one that came with the camera or from another source? Can you test with another PC or MAC?

You'll be far better off with a card reader (SD card reader in your case). Some Macs do have built-in SD card readers (e.g. MacBook Pro and Mac Studio). Apple also makes a USB-C to SD card reader accessory. And you can also get inexpensive SD card readers as well from other brands.

As my colleagues above have advised, get a SD reader by far the best way to go.

"... I connect my camera and power it up, the menu screen shows a "busy" banner for about 10-15 sec then goes blank."

But otherwise it works as expected?

haha yes - new camera should have been the way I went!

Thank you for your input and possible solution:

"You should see a prompt when it's first connected. If its not doing anything, the cable might be faulty..." Unfortunately, I no longer have the OEM cable and have tried several. Before I completely let this go, I'll try source an actual canon cable or at least one that I know for sure is designed for data transfer. I hadn't considered this. Currently, when I connect the camera, the computer doesn't react in any way and simply is unable to see it.

"Your camera should not be freezing. Can't tell from your post if this is happening only when you connect it to a computer or at other times randomly. Are you using a full size memory card with it..." The freezing behaviour is only when plugged into the computer, otherwise the camera operates normally. Because of this, I have a "low level" of hope as the camera is detecting something - just doesn't like it. I'm using a standard memory card, not a micro and currently simply popping it out and using an adapter to download my images.

Part if the reason this is even a topic for me is I popped out my SD card to extract images a few weeks ago, then went on a road trip leaving my card at home. Now I have a spare 😉

Thanks again for your input, very much appreciated. I'll report back once I test my camera, 1: with a different computer and 2: with a cable I know 100% is for data transfer.

Thanks for your suggestion, I should have been more clear there - currently removing the card and using a card reader. Just not the process I like, I am forgetful and have left my card at home by accident (now I have a spare - 2x actually haha)

Thanks for your reply. This is interesting actually - my thoughts (aside from my forgetfulness of leaving my card in the card reader and heading out on a road trip) - was that constantly popping this in/out was actually not great for the camera or the card. Figured by doing this pretty much every time I use my camera, I'd be wearing internal connections out or something like that.

The freezing behaviour is only when connected to the camera, otherwise, it works as expected.

Thanks again! Much appreciated!

To prevent forgetting SD Cards. I would suggest carrying additional SD Cards in your camera bag. Then set your camera to prevent it from taking pictures. Without an SD Card inserted in the camera. 32GB should be plenty for an older Rebel series camera.
