Greetings,

Camera's purchased in the United States have a one-year warranty. The warranty covers parts and manufacturing defects. A repair center can determine if the issue or failure is covered by warranty. Warranty can vary by country or region. so a product purchased in another part of the world may or may not be eligible depending on where it is presented for service. Date/proof of purchase would be required no matter where you are. This is the only way a manufacturer can establish a warranty period or eligibility.

Since handheld electronics can be costly to repair, I usually recommend buying a carepak, unless you are prepared to replace a device that has had an accident or failed.

I hope you find a solution and things work out for you and the camera.

Hello,

I have recently experienced sound recording issues on my Canon EOS M6.

Before, when I attached the Sony ECM-XYST 1M external microphone to the hot/cold shoe and plugged it into the microphone jack, I had amazing audio for my vlogs.

Now, when I plug in the external microphone, there is always a background hum at best, and complete cut-out at worst(when walking with the camera).

Attempted a reset on all settings. Purchased a new external mic with new connecting cords. Tried everything I could think of to get the sound back to the way it used to be.

1)Is it possible the 3mm input jack is damaged?
2) Does the hot/cold shoe impact sound quality?

Please help!

I really don't want to buy a new camera.

Thanks,

Greetings,

The flash shoe does not impact the sound recorded by an external microphone.

If the issue persists after purchasing a new mic / cord and resetting the camera, a problem with the mic jack would be the next thing I'd check. Canon can do this for you. The M6 was released in 2017. It should still be serviceable. You can start by registering it on MyCanon. Then select your support / repair options. Estimates are free and repairs come with a 6 month warranty.

MyCanon

Hi Shadowspots,

I purchased the camera in February 2019.

Because we have moved across continents, I don't have my file containing the receipt.

One other additional note: when the camera is running, with the cable attached between the camera and microphone, it appears to be picking up audio interference from radio or cell phone?

I suppose, if I cannot locate my receipt, I will need to find a local Canon store who can address this issue?

Greetings,

The camera has a 1 yr warranty. Since you now live abroad you may need to find someone local for repair.

Cell phones can cause interference with some mics. I'd refrain from using one when filming. Either way, if the sound is cutting out with a new mic and cable, the 3.5mm jack will need to be looked at.

For Product and Support Information | Canon Global

Hello Shadowsports,

I just returned from the Canon Professional Service location.

The Canon representative, after checking both the settings and the internal camera/external camera, told me that it is likely a circuit that is causing the problem. He advised me that it would be super expensive to repair the circuit.

Question: do you know if Canon's manufacturer warranty covers the internal circuits?

The manual says to disable Wifi since sounds from that function may be recorded. I disable Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS when using an external mic.
