Quick update. I have detached the lens and the noise is still there. It's sounds like a lone bearing bouncing down some marble steps.

Hi,

I bought a new lense for a new body and noticed this model (50mm 1.2L) has a slight mechanical/gear/klunking noise when turning the camera portrait and landscape. Doesn't happen with my other lenses.

This is the first prime L series i ha e had though. Lens works well, no issues apart from this. I've read on Ken Rockwell that this 'is normal'. Is it?

Mine is silent and has been since I bought it some time ago. Yours should be, too.
