What is a "X2"? What does it do? Who makes it?

Is it a teleconverter, to double the effective focal length of a your lens? If so, what lens are you trying to use with it? Depending upon the f/stop rating of the lens, it is likely that the AF, auto focus, system will not work with it.

"X2" and "L" make no sense in this context. Please give us exact model numbers. I certainly hope that "X2" does not refer to Fuji!

I doubt there is anything she can do to "make it work', but maybe she could trade it for a 1.4X TC, which may be a bit more forgiving.

This however, will prevent you from focusing to infinity because of the extension tube.

Focal length multipliers (such as a 2x Extender) not only mutliply the focal length of the lens, they also multiply the focal ratio of the lens. In other words, your camera may no longer be able to use auto-focus with a 2x extender (depending on the lens.)

2x extenders should typically only be used with f/2.8 or lower focal ratio lenses because f/2.8 x 2x = 5.6 and any camera body can still auto-focus at f/5.6. However... suppose you have an f/4 lens and use a 2x extender... it now becomes f/8. Very few cameras (and only the high-end models) are capable of achieving auto-focus at f/8. This has to do with how phase-detect focus systems work.

You will also notice that the images aren't quite as sharp with the 2x extender as they are with no extender. There is a slight degradation of the optics.

This is typical and every tele-extender has this issue ... to some degree.
