Manual focus not working with Canon RF 24-70mm F2.8L on R6MII

Both barely used. Factory settings on the R6MII. Autofocus works perfectly fine.

Switched to MF on the lens. Engaged metering. Went through all the settings and nothing seems to work.

When switched the MF the focus ring does nothing. Is my lens just broken? It's barely three years old and not used intensively.

Did it ever work properly?

Make sure you are turning the correct control ring.

Yes it used to work just fine and I am definitely using the correct ring.

Do you have Electronic Full Time MF enabled or disabled? It sounds as though you may have it enabled, which means you could use MF while keeping the lens switched to AF. You would need to disable it to use the MF switch.

I tried both. It still doesn't work on disabled. Starting to think I just got a defective lens.

@JcDenton is the metering system active if not the focus by wire system DOES NOT WORK. RF lenses are all focus by wire unlike previous EF lenses (with some exceptions). Older EF lenses used a clutch system for focus override on Ring Type USM lenses. Some Ring Type USM lenses and all Nano USM lenses are focus by wire so are all STM lenses. Micro USM lenses DO NOT support focus override in AF. Only the EF 50mm F/1.4 USM lens does. It has an additional clutch system to allow this. Check MF after One Shot too. It may also need to be ENABLED some older R series bodies have this setting. Some have it combined with Lens Electronic MF.

Yes, metering system is active. Electronic full-time MF is on. Camera says it's in MF mode. I think the ring must have failed for whatever reason.

@JcDenton does the focus guide pop up? It should when MF is set on the lens.

Yes, the focus guide is up. I haven't been able to get it to budge at all with the manual focus ring.
