Is the a legit email notifcation from Canon on end of service for Canon EF 2.8

I received the following email supposedly from Canon.

Seemed really sketchy when I called the number. They offered a gift card but asked for checking account and DOB verification.

Wondering if this was a legit message from Canon.

If the email address they sent it from ends with "cusa.canon.com" it is their legit domain. However asking for checking account and DOB sounds really odd.

I have the previous version of the same lens, and I received the email yesterday. I did log into my own Canon account where I have all of my gear registered. See the screenshot below, and call the 1-866-443-8002 number here instead if you are interested in what they offer as a discount. Again, this is from the official Canon website, and where I was logged in to my Canon account, so this screenshot and phone number is 100% legit. Let us know what they offer you, if you would, please. I'm kind of curious myself, and others in the forum might be as well.

In addition, I did know for quite a while that my lens was going to be out of service around May or June in 2026. I'm guessing both of these lenses maybe went out of service on the same date??

I just got an email notification stating that my 70-200 f2.8 mkII was end of life as of 6/30/2026. I no longer on this lens.

However, there was nothing from Canon asking that I provide personal information (checking acct, DOB). Or anything involving a gift card. Canon does not solicit this type of information. Canon does not have its own brand gift card.

Any email address can be spoofed. Just because the senders address appears to be Canon, It may not be. The header would have to be examined.

If you were asked for any financial or personally identifiable information, It's a scam.

As Rick said, it's a scam. No legitimate business is going to ask you for your date of birth information, and they wouldn't need your checking account number to send you a gift card.
