Was there a question here? If you are asking, you lens is broken and needs service. Lenses do not respond well to being dropped.

"You could try holding the lens in one had and banging your fist on the body."

I would emphatically discourage doing that. Give Canon a call, 1 (800) 652-2666, or set up service ticket yourself on the web site.

It worked for me. Worked perfectly afterwards. After my vacation trip I did send it to Canon for a check; lens checked out perfectly. I did talk with the tech and he said that depending on the lens the IS modules can get stuck if lens is jarred (mine was in a backpack that slid off a chair). Repeating the process by banging the lens freed it.

Hi, I dropped my lens and now when I connect it to my camera it makes an error noise and will take one photo then disconnect from my camera. I have tried it on my other cameras so I know it's a lens error. #EF 24-70 1:4 L IS USM

Greetings,

See my reply in this thread for assistance.

https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/General-Discussion/Curious-About-Servicing/td-p/588316#M41358

I believe Canon will still be servicing this lens through May 2027.

I had a similar problem when my 70-300 IS lens rolled onto the floor. The IS module got jammed.

You could try holding the lens in one had and banging your fist on the body. That freed up the module for me and lens worked perfectly afterwards.
