RF-S18-150mm AF/MF switch stopped working

Hello everyone,

I have an r7, and with the rf-s 18-150mm f3.5-6.3 STM, I have been using the af/mf switch on the front of the camera body to switch between focus modes quickly, since the lens has no such switch. Suddenly this switch on the camera body has stopped working. It is still possible to switch between af and mf within the camera menu, and with my other lenses which have an af/mf switch on the lens, the lens switches are all functioning fine when used with the r7.

Can you think of anything i could be missing? Might my camera body need to go to the doctor?

See if this helps.

When the AF does not operate after switching the focus mode from [MF] to [AF] and when the focus mode is not displayed on the camera’s menu, turn the focus ring in the direction of [Infinity] until the focusing position is within the [AF in-focus range].
• It is not possible to switch the focus mode to [AF] if the focus lens’s focusing position is within the [MF-only range], at which the focus can only be aligned in the MF mode.

Hello!

If the AF/MF switch on your Canon R7 stopped working with the RF-S 18-150mm lens, it’s likely due to a camera setting. This lens lacks a physical focus switch, so the body’s switch only works if enabled in the menu. Check under Menu > AF > Switch (AF/MF) and ensure it’s set to “Enable.” If it’s already enabled and still not working, try updating firmware or resetting custom controls. Otherwise, it may need a service check.

For the EOS R7 and EOS R10 the order or priority for the three ways to switch between AF/MF is as follows;

If lens has physical switch it takes priority
If lens has no physical switch then AF/MF switch on the body has priority when the default setting of the AF/MF switch is enabled. With this setting the Focus Mode option is not displayed at the end of the AF1 menu.
If the lens has no switch, and the AF/MF switch on the camera is disabled then the Focus mode setting appears at the end of the AF1 menu, and must be used to select AF/MF

Based on this you must have disabled the AF/MF switch on the camera body for you to be able to select AF/MF in the menu.

Thank you! based on your advice I was able to discover that somehow in the wrench menu I had disabled switch af/mf and my camera switch is now working like before
