18-55mm lens crooked after being dropped

I dropped my camera, and the lens is crooked. The zoom doesn't work, im not able to take photos. Am I able to fix it myself or is it needed professional help

But in the end, I'd look at the used departments at KEH, Adorama or B&H.

KEH has a mkIII copy for $65.00. Rated (EX+) 🙂

Hope it's only the lens that took the hit. If the camera is hurt too,consider an R50 kit and walk away.

You could try snapping the lens back in line by pushing on it. If not successful follow Rick's advice.

This may not work but is a pretty well known trick to realign the motor and gears inside this model of lenses. You have nothing to lose trying it. So you can try this..................................

Take the lens off of your camera.

Put the lens in MF mode.

Twist the FOCUS ring (the tip of the lens) all the way to one side (extend it). You may hear a click noise or two, this is good, but don't FORCE the lens.

Twist the FOCUS ring all the way to the opposite side (retract it). Again, you may hear a couple of clicking noises. What we hope is happening is the focusing motor being put back into its proper place.

Put the lens back on the camera.

Put the lens in AF mode.

Turn the camera on.

Put the camera in AUTO or P mode.

Take a test photo.

The shipping to and from, Canon is likely more than the lens is worth so a good used lens is the way to go. There are thousands upon thousands of them out there so don't pay much for a used copy.

FWIW, when I pick up my T7 camera, I always put the strap over my head. If it's going on a tripod, I make sure that the strap is secured to the tripod while mounting it. I have too much invested to have an "Oops!" situation.

This is true. None of my cameras come out of their bag without a wrist strap or sling with secondary retention. 😉
