Mr.Walleye,

Purchased a R6 M2 and then ordered a RF24-240mm lens. When I doing my research on buying a new camera in the Spring I narrowed my search to the R10 and R6M2. Purchased the R10 because of cost and my concern about learning a new technology. Several months later I decided I wanted to go to a full frame camera and have some additional options on lenses.

As I tell people I am spending my children's inheritance.

Good Morning,

Yes I am embracing digital cameras and loving it. I made my choice and got an R7. I know I have a lot of EF glass, but one RF lens that intrigues me is the 24-240. Seems to be a really decent lens from what I've read thus far. And that range would make a really nice option to pack light for Europe. As I am new to allof this mostly, the lens should work fine on the R7, yes? I've only seen reviews using on R5's/ FF cameras.

Thanks all! Stay cool this weekend!

Greetings,

You've made a great body choice. The RF 24-240 is also a nice lens. Note that it will provide an equivalent FOV of 38-384mm since it is a full frame lens. You may also want to consider the RF-S 18-150 for the APS-C based R7. It will provide greater wide angle support. This will be beneficial for landscapes and architecture by allowing you to stand closer to your subjects. The 24-240 might require you stand back a little farther for some shots. This is not a bad thing, but something to be aware of.

Here's a great article that explains things well.

Hi, yes I think the camera is going to be a winner, so far! Thanks for the 👍

I like the FOV 38-384 if I understand it right. A great zoom range. I'm still learning the whole APS-C thing vs FF with lenses and such. That link was super helpful. I should have mentioned I would also take a wide lens with too. Travel as "light" as possible. I still see my camera bag getting fuller and fuller.... 😁 but I'd want to keep it to the body and two lenses to lug around daily and all handheld. But that 24-240 lens would make a great "all rounder" as we do our daily tours and such. It's in the price range I'd consider and I'd like to try an RF mount lens too. My adapted EF/EF-S lenses are doing very well so far too. Always fun when you get a new "toy" and get into a new camera ecosystem. Reminds me of the fun I had going from FD cameras to EOS. More reviews of that lens are welcome....

Thanks again!

I will urge you to take Rick's and my advice and reconsider the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens. It will be a much friendlier GP all around lens.Almost all the time more WA is better than more tele for GP stuff. 300mm is a lot of FL and not real useful unless you have a specific need for it. Plus the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is a reasonably fast lens a real compact lens. If you don't mind carrying two lenses and you said you were good with that then get a tele as the extra lens instead of a WA lens.

There is nothing to learn and a lot of hype to dismiss and best if you don't even read about it. The only difference is the AOV. Nothing else. Learn the, probably new to you ,AOV of lenses and enjoy your new R7. Remember the FL of a lens never changes just its AOV. There are charts you can get to help you see the new AOV.

Hi MrWalley73,

Sounds like you have things well in hand. You're absolutely right about using the full frame lens on an aps-c based camera. I see you also have a conceptual understanding of how the lens type can affect the image circle. As long as you have a second lens with a wider field of view, you'll have a great "lightweight" kit for your travels. As I said, the R7 is a popular camera. Dual card slots, a nice big battery, and plenty of megapixels should the desire for cropping occur. If you have any questions as you start using your new gear, reach out and we're happy to help.

Hi guys....yeah regarding the learning, I get it now. It's all about the AOV. As you all know, there's a lot of "crap" or hype as ebiggs1 pointed out, regarding lenses and APS-C....I understasnd it all now. And I can move on in my life now, fully understanding and not being confused anymore. I was losing sleep! Haha.😁 Thanks for that education though, seriously. I wish everyone on the internet would have just stated it that way. This Community seems to be the right place to go, going forward for info.

I have lots of older lenses and I thought this one would fun to mess with. If not I can sell it (if I buy it). I'll be playing around with lots of my older lenses this weekend with the adapter. I'll have my arsenal together before I go to Europe. I have some lenses in the 18-135 range, especially the 18-135 EF-S nano that came with the 80D I got from an estate sale. I'll be playing around, with the new camera....and come back for info, always.

Howdy, I forgot you had mentioned the estate sale, the 80D and the EF-S18-135. That's a great lens. I owned it with my T6s. That should be a great combo on the R7. It may not support super high frame rates, but you'll get the FOV you need

Yeah that and some other interesting lenses in the box. The 10-18 EF-S isn’t bad for an all plastic lens.

I don’t want to bring the large tele lens abroad.

Well, me being me, I picked up one new lens, or soon to be here. I like the idea of the Sigma 17-50 RF lens. It fills a nice range, lighweight/compact enough, and the f 2.8 is really nice. Seen some decent reviews too. Should pair nicely with the R7 I would think. More to come.....Camera is very nice so far....still learning functions and whatnot. Take it for a full shakedown on the July 4 weekend. Next is to pick and learn an editing software.

Nice camera, really packs it all in and rated highly by just about everyone....I looked at it but made my choice. Always difficult when you can only buy one. I got the 24-240 also. Works nice with the APS-C and in camera corrections. So far it I like it. It will be my travel lens with a faster, smaller lens for indoors, darker etc.

Yes spend their inheritance and remind them every time you take their picture and ask them to smile....😉

How do you like the R6 Mii? My Refurbished R7 didn't last. Trying to get another is not working so well. Was offered an R6 Mii in exchange for a difference in cost. I'll see what happens with the R7. I know the R6 is FF, but you went from R10 to R6. Like it better?

Thanks!!
