topic Why does the RF 35mm F1.4L VCM not have IS? in EF & RF Lenses

The RF 35mm F1.4L VCM is advertised as a hybrid video/photography lens, but if it's made for video, why doesn't it have IS? The RF 35mm F1.8 does have IS and is almost €1000 cheaper. If you comine the F1.4 lens with a camera with IBIS, then it's less of a deal breaker, but I have r8 which doesn't have IBIS, so this lens is no option for me (I don't want to have a gimbal because of additional weight). The 2/3 more stops of light would've been very nice. I don't think there are any EF 35mm F1.4 lenses with IS, but I do believe Sony has one though. Please let me know your thoughts on what would be a good alternative.

Greetings ,

It appears to be done to reduce the size, weight and cost of the lens. This particular model is lightweight and easily holdable. It relies on IBIS in the body for stabilization. IBIS is more effective than digital IS. The VCM lens has higher build quality than the f1.8. That lens also has macro capability. The lack of IS was a design decision in this case.

Also another thing is that most wide aperture lenses generally lack IS. Since the wide aperture is a huge benefit in low light. Also IS isn’t needed as much at wide angles though. But it definitely comes in handy in low light. With telephoto lenses it’s definitely a great benefit at telephoto focal lengths.

Also, it is intended for video. Lens IS is one less thing to provide noise.
