The best starter is the one Canon offers with the R50 it is why Canon does it. The Canon EOS R50 Mirrorless Camera with 18-45mm Lens. It won't do bears unless you are also wanting to pet them when you take their picture so you will need a long tele preferably zoom lens to go along. Now, IMHO, I would not want any of the lenses suggested above except the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Lens for taking photo of bears. And it will be at the longer side of the lens more than at the shorter side.

Nice thing about the fantastic Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Lens is once you get back home if you no longer want or need it, it will be an easy sell. I have done that several times and I feel it much better than renting. Have a great time.

Ive decided to try the EOS R50. Purpose is for landscape and wildlife trip. Which RFs lenses should i get: 10-18 and 18-150, or 18-45 and 55-210? My goal is to get the best landscapes, but also the occasional bear on an Alaska trip. Price does not matter.

If price does not matter, I would get the 10-18 for landscapes (though you could just create a multi-image panorama) the 18-150 for walking around, and the 200-800 for wildlife.

Though the 100 to 400 is probably a bit more budget friendly.

Greetings,

We don't know what you're coming from or your level of experience really. The R50 is a great starter mirrorless camera. It's got a 24 megapixel sensor and will take some great pictures.

Even though it's entry level, if you're coming from a DSLR, you're going to notice a big difference in performance. On the R50, I'd go for the RF-S18-150 and RF 100-400 to start. I did an Alaska cruise 2 years ago. Fantastic trip, beautiful country, and plenty of wildlife. When are you going? Are you doing a cruise or will it be land-based?

If price really doesn't matter then the RF200-800 would be a nice addition for the Alaska trip. The R50 may look a bit odd given it's size in comparison to the lens.

The RF100-400 would be much easier to carry and if you wanted some additional reach you could add the 1.4X extender giving you a 140mm - 560mm range when you needed it.
.

None of those lenses will be very good for wildlife, the RF200-800 is ideal.go at least 400 or 500mm. . However I question your choice of the camera for heading to Alaska, a weather sealed camera would be a better bet. That camera also does not have IBIS, fine for landscape shooting on a tripod, but it really helps with wildlife, and that will work in conjunction with lens stabilization to get an even more stabilized picture.
