RF 18-45mm lens won't extend/retract when camera is turned on/off

I have a EOS R100 with the RF 18-45 Lense. The lense does not automatically extend and retract when the camera is turned off and on. Can anyone offer a solution for this, thank you.

That lens doesn't have a power retract or extend feature you must manually do it.

Which shooting mode are you using?

Does the lens work properly and refocus when you take photos?

I don’t use the R100. I know that its bigger brothers have a setting that enables and disables the behavior. It’s possible that your camera has this set to disable.

But first, we need to confirm the lens is working properly.

Well the retract feature is manually done on the zoom ring by turning it to just before 18mm. The lens doesn't have a Power Retract or extend feature at all. I even checked the manual for the lens and it shows how to manually retract the lens and extend it. It shows nothing about enabling power retract in the camera menu.

Please start by verifying the following settings:

C.Fn 5: Retract lens on power off

Canon : Product Manual : EOS R100 : Custom Functions (C.Fn)

I believe its supported on the RF-S 18-45

This lens doesn't support power retract and extend you must manually do it. Power retract and extend only works on lenses with gear type STM mainly found in prime lenses such as the RF 35mm F/1.8 IS Macro STM lens. The lens has a "retracted" position and a "working position". You have to turn the zoom ring to go from retracted position to the working position. The retracted position is used to make the lens super short in length, and easier to keep on the camera or in a pocket when not taking photos.

Methinks the original poster wants his lens to do what point & shoots do...turn on camera and lens extends out, turn off camera and lens fully retracts.

Can the OP tell us more?
