Hello! I have an EF 28-105 f/3.5-5.6 lens (USM motor) and I have AF problems with it. the autofocus does not work, I hear a few clicks while focusing (very softly), and the focus ring is difficult to move. I have another USM lens, but the ring on this one is very difficult to move.

Sounds like there’s some sort of issue. I don’t think the lens is still being repaired by Canon.

Do either of those lenses have a focus distance window on them. If they don’t they use the cheaper Micro Motor USM. These lenses DO NOT support Manual Focus override while in AF mode. So don’t attempt to turn the focus ring in AF Mode. Only the EF 50mm F/1.4 USM lens supports it. It has an additional clutch system to support this. It is also the only Micro Motor USM to support it.

So are you looking into a telephoto lens then. The 24-105mm is a standard zoom lens for a Full Frame camera and it wouldn't provide an ideal focal length for an APS-C camera. But it would still work but It would be difficult to use. Have you thought about the RF-S 18-150mm F/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens or the RF-S 55-210mm F/5-7.1 IS STM lens. Its on sale refurbished for $279 on Canon's online store.
