Canon will charge you to repair that lens. The cost of repair is most likely more than the replacement cost. I would instead shop for a 2nd hand replacement.

Good replacement lenses would be:

EF-S 18-55 IS STM

EF-S 18-135 IS STM

EF-S 18-135 IS USM.

Just a wild guess. The serial number is being rejected because the lens is too old, and no longer supported for repair.

Man, I seriously doubt that. Serial numbers don't go bad just because the lens is no longer in support. If the lens is bought in Malaysia and the OP is trying to register in the USA, that's the problem.

I am in step with MikeS, the lens, if out of warranty, will probably cost more to repair that it is worth so the question is moot.

Even if you could register it that model lens has passed the Canon service life date for repair, so Canon won't accept it for repair.

I don’t think country of origin is the issue. It’s simply too old for service by Canon.

“ Man, I seriously doubt that. Serial numbers don't go bad just because the lens is no longer in support. “

The serial number is good. The system recognized it as out of service life and rejected it.

No the serial number is not good, it is "invalid".. The OP said the number was "invalid". That means the system did not recognize it as a Canon USA serial number.and rejected it. Even if you have a very old Canon lens, you can still register it with Canon.

Canon USA maintains our database of serial numbers independently from other regions, so it is actually entirely possible for it to be invalid and/or rejected if the user entered the information incorrectly, if it's gray market, or if that region removes older products that haven't been registered from their database.

The best course of action is to contact Canon in the region for guidance. A direct link was provided in another chat, but if anyone from another area is having a similar issue, you can find regional/local Canon offices at https://global.canon/en/support
