Almost a certainty that an R series camera and lens will not offer you anything more than the 90D and ef-s 18-135mm will. The 90D is Canon's best of the series and the best crop series camera made. If you want to really step up your game get the 90D with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens. For IQ there isn't any R series that is going to shame that combo. Another outstanding choice is the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lens. These two zooms are in a class by themselves.

I'm sorry, but I don't see an EF18-155mm listed.

There's an 18-55 and an 18-135, and both of them do have image stabilization.

Greetings,

IS aside. If you do not have any investment in DSLRs or EF/EF-S glass, I would consider mirrorless. The useable life and ROI is much higher. The 90D is 5 yrs old. DSLR's take beautiful photos but are a dead end for a first time investment.

Here's a side by side comparison. 90D vs R7 $300 price difference as an example.

Canon R7 vs Canon 90D Detailed Comparison

Another option. Refurbished R7 from Canon. When the body comes back into stock, its $40 dollars more than a new 90D. You might also consider the R7 with RF-S 18-150mm.

Just something to think about.

Welcome. I have to agree with Rick. Service life aside, the performance differences between the 90D and any of the Canon R Series of cameras is pretty dramatic.

The R7 is the highest performing APS-C in the current lineup. The R10 is not as expensive, but every bit as capable. The R7 is just more muscled up for sports and wildlife.

Any EF/EF-S lens you currently own should work well on the R bodies with the addition of a mount adapter.

Side note. Lens adapters are intended to stay on a lens. A mount adapter is intended to stay on the camera’s lens mount.

Waddizzle,

Could I ask you a question about this.

You wrote, "Side note. Lens adapters are intended to stay on a lens. A mount adapter is intended to stay on the camera’s lens mount."

Does that mean that I wouldn't be able to take the adapter off and use the EF or EF-S lens on my DSLR again?

I bought several Fotodiox FD adapters back in the day to use on my EF mount T6 camera, and once mounted, I had a devil of time trying to get them back off. I wound up buying an adapter for each lens I wanted to use.

Is that still the case these days with an EOS EF-R adapter?

The EOS EF/RF adapter can be put on and taken off as often as you like. I have a handful of EF lenses, and the same with RF lenses. They are all used at various times on my three different Mirrorless cameras, so there is a lot of switching. I've used the one single adapter since 2019.
