Welcome. I have a few questions.

What sport(s) are we talking about?

Indoor or outdoor sports? Day or night?

What is your shooting location for each sport?

Could post a sample of a “terrible” photo, complete with EXIF data and exposure settings. Thanks, in advance.

EOS R7 lens recommendations for outdoor sports

To all I have an r7 with the 18-150 and I bought the 100-400 lens. Here is the issue. The photos I take with the 18-150 lens are terrible. I use the setup outside 90 percent of the time. For my sons sports. Money aside, is there is a better lens that I can get to suit my purpose? Me spending 3k for a lens is a drop in the bucket when my grandkids are able to look at the pictures. Also what terrible means is blurry, grainy, and lots of shadows. Most of the time I can’t use the 100-400 lens because I am too close. Any advice.

I fully understand. You can take some test shots without minors, if you want. A family dog running around would work.

What’s more important for now is answering the questions as best you can.

Hi. My first thought is this could be a combination of things- settings, too dark a scene, and possibly focus issues.
It's understandable you cant post the pics so lets tackle things one at a time. Are you usually taking these shots in daylight?

I too have the R7. As a fairly new photographer (relearning anyway) I agree with the idea of posting photos and settings for better input BUT, I can also say that changing from the provided lens (mine was a kit purchase) to L series lenses has made a HUGE difference for me. The two just don’t compare at all.
