When I use the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 lens (from 2006) on my R10 and go to Shooting Menu 9/Display simulation, I find that the option "Exposure + DOF" is not available. The only options are "Exposure", "Exposure only during DOF" and "Disable". However, my other 3 remaining EF lenses [EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro IS USM (2009), EF-S 55-250mm IS STM (2013), and EF 70-300mm/4-5.6 IS II USM (2016)] all include the option "Exposure + DOF" on the R10. I observe the same behavior for all 4 lenses on my R8 (I know that the EF-S lenses are cropped on the R8). What prevents the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 from showing this option?

Older EF/ EF-S lenses have limitations because the hardware in those lenses don’t support those features. Older Ring Type USM lenses don’t transition between apertures smoothly and they snap back and forth to acquire focus. Newer Ring Type USM lenses don’t suffer from these problems.
